PER NON MORIRE SI CANTA
CANTANDO POI SI MUORE
LA FATICA MI HA UCCISO
BUTTANDO IL SUDORE
QUANTO TI VOGLIO BENE, PADRONE MIO
UNA VESTE TUTTA D'ORO, TI FAREI
POI IN MEZZO AL MARE, TI PORTEREI
E LÀ, DOV'È PIÙ PROFONDO, TI BUTTEREI
✧
TO NOT DIE YOU SING
SINGING, THEN YOU DIE
LABOR HAS KILLED ME
SWEATING IT ALL OUT
HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU, MY MASTER
I WOULD MAKE YOU A GARMENT OF GOLD
I WOULD TAKE YOU TO THE MIDDLE OF THE SEA
AND THERE, WHERE IT'S DEEPEST, I WOULD THROW YOU IN

Dov’è Più Profondo is a performance that integrates corporeality, sound, and visuals, emerging from a creative process where practitioners of traditional vocal forms and oral traditions from the hosting regions were invited to share their musical and cultural heritage. Their voices were recorded, thus enriching the repertoire of spontaneous choirs and singers preserved in rare archives and collections from Puglia, Piemonte, and Valle d'Aosta.
Dov’è Più Profondo, overlapping narratives converge, with songs released from a singular origin and reflections on identities and traditions liberated from the ideal of purity, allowing for the beauty of cultural fusion. Traces of both contemporary and historical individuals, from distant locales yet connected through shared experiences of labor, social interaction, and their relationship with nature and history, are woven into the performance.
We inhabit a society that has largely lost dedicated spaces and times for ritual, except in forms often shaped by homogenized imaginaries. Thus, this choreographic work harnesses the power of song as a medium for sensitive human connection, exploring and celebrating the fundamental aspects of living together.
PRESS
«...Russolillo dismantles the idyllic landscape of identity and reinvents the relationship between people and horizon, between self and other, exposing herself (in collaboration with Sansonne) with a meticulous attention to detail to a precious artistic “gesture”...»
Paolo Ruffini – Liminateatri
«...a layered show made of evocative choreographies, soundscapes curated by producer Edoardo Sansonne/Kawabate, and songs that blend the Walser tradition with the Cerignolano dialect. A performance marked by multiple acts, held together by a narrative thread that reaches great heights to tell of the soothing nature of singing...»
Valerio Veneruso – Artribune
«...a surprising work that arises from the discovery of small Alpine realities and becomes a universal discourse. The performer brings origins and history back to life...»
Carlotta Di Marino – Campadidanza
«...dance/sound/word/image seem to belong to the same origin. The body moves on a stage that is devoid of everything but not empty at all (...) the chanting of Irene Russolillo makes emotions “in purity” vibrate (...) from two great performers...»
